Reckless Calya Driver on Gunung Sahari Now a Suspect

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The police have designated the driver of a black Toyota Calya, who was filmed driving recklessly on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, as a traffic offender and a suspect. The driver, identified as HM (24 years old), is considered to have violated traffic laws and endangered other road users, resulting in injuries.

The Director of Traffic (Dirlantas) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Komarudin, stated that the driver of the vehicle with license plate number D 1640 AHB was initially designated as a traffic offender. He has now also been designated as a suspect in the accident case, as it resulted in injuries.

“Initially, he was designated as a traffic offender, and now he is a suspect in the accident case. Regarding other findings, we have handed them over to the Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim). We are awaiting the results of the investigation by the Jakarta Central Reskrim,” he said on Thursday (26/2/2026).

Komarudin stated that the driver of the Toyota Calya will be charged under articles 1, 2, and 3 of Article 311 of Law No. 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation. This is because his actions not only endangered other road users but also caused damage to property or vehicles and resulted in injuries.

According to preliminary police data, two people were injured as a result of the reckless driving. Both individuals sustained minor injuries and have returned home after receiving treatment.
