Bekasi — As vehicular traffic increases ahead of the 2026 Lebaran exodus, several sections of Jalan HM Joyo Martono in Margahayu District, East Bekasi, Bekasi City, continue to suffer from damage and potholes.

This is despite previous repair efforts by Bekasi City Government (Pemkot) through the Department of Public Works and Water Resources (DBMSDA).

Dandy, 40, a resident living near the area, stated that the road damage has been repaired multiple times using temporary patching methods, but the repairs do not last long.

He believes that repairs to Jalan HM Joyo Martono should be carried out permanently to ensure durability and prevent danger to road users.

“If it’s only temporary patching, it breaks down again the next day. The hope is that it can be made permanent. But that comes down to the government,” Dandy said.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that traffic on Jalan HM Joyo Martono has remained busy in recent days, but continues to flow smoothly, including as travellers from various regions begin their exodus journeys.

“The traffic is quite smooth. But potholes definitely cause problems. Especially since this is a main route and it often gets congested,” he said.

Jalan HM Joyo Martono is one of the important access roads connecting several areas in Bekasi City, including Bulak Kapal, Narogong, Kalimalang, and providing access to the eastern Bekasi toll gate exit.

“Even small potholes can cause danger if the driver is not paying attention,” said Prambudi.

As a resident who travels the road almost daily, he stated that he has witnessed several accidents caused by the poor road condition. The situation becomes increasingly dangerous during rain.

“It’s better when the road is dry. When it rains, sometimes people do not realise how deep the potholes are. It could be dangerous if you are going fast,” he said.

Ahead of the 2026 Lebaran exodus, Prambudi acknowledged that the local government has indeed conducted several repairs on the road. However, damage resurfaces because the repairs are only temporary patches.
