Receiving Protest Representatives, Gibran: I Am Glad Students Are Critical
Vice President (Wapres) of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming received students while a demonstration was taking place around the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta. Gibran received a number of student representatives at his office.
In documentation received from the Vice Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday (16/6/2026), Gibran welcomed the students who were wearing university jackets.
“Which one is the blue (jacket)?” asked Gibran while shaking hands with the students.
“(University of) MH Thamrin,” answered the student.
“There are only two of you?” asked Gibran.
“Yes, the rest are outside,” the student replied again.
Gibran then apologised for not being able to interact directly with all the students outside.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry, please send my regards to those outside. Not all students can come in,” said Gibran.
On that occasion, Gibran appreciated the students for providing input to the government. He supports students having a voice in evaluating government policies and programmes.
“Today I am very grateful to receive input. Just convey it. What we have achieved now, what has been built, let us maintain it together. I am glad, these are critical students, participating in evaluating, providing suggestions,” said Gibran.
Previously, Action Coordinator Abdi Maludin said the students conveyed their study directly to Gibran during the audience. According to him, Gibran noted the aspirations conveyed by the students in his small notebook.
“The response from the parties, of course the Vice President, was very good. He will record the results of our demands in his small notebook, noting the points that the Vice President needs to address going forward to improve and evaluate all forms of irregularities in the country today,” said Abdi after the meeting at the Vice Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, Monday (15/6).
