Attorney General ST Burhanuddin has affirmed that the relationship between the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) remains solid and harmonious. He made the statement while receiving a courtesy visit from Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and senior police officials at the Attorney General’s Office building in Jakarta on Monday (13/7). Burhanuddin dismissed public speculation on social media suggesting a rivalry or tension between the institutions following recent legal developments, particularly after former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah was named a suspect in three corruption cases. “Alhamdulillah, I received a visit from my friends from the police. This is not a new programme; it is an old one. Do not think that we are rivals, that we are versus each other, no,” Burhanuddin said on Monday (13/7). Burhanuddin revealed that he and Listyo have built a close emotional and professional bond since they first took command of their respective institutions. He asked the public and the media not to overinterpret the meeting in light of recent law enforcement dynamics. He explained that such face-to-face coordination is a routine agenda conducted in a familial spirit. “Do not think this is because of something that happened yesterday. This is a regular gathering we have done for a long time; we have known each other personally, and we took up our posts as Attorney General and Police Chief together,” he explained. Burhanuddin stressed that the main focus of the Attorney General’s Office and the Police is to conduct joint evaluations and formulate strategic steps to strengthen coordination in the field. “We are always thinking about how to improve going forward,” the Attorney General concluded.
