Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) emphasised the importance of the younger generation’s role as future leaders. He also highlighted the need for the younger generation to understand the strategic role of infrastructure in everyday life.

This message was delivered by AHY when receiving an audience of six Year XI students from Labschool Cirendeu at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Jakarta, on Monday (13/4).

The meeting served as an interactive dialogue space discussing the relationship between infrastructure development and community activities, as well as the importance of strengthening the capacity and character of the younger generation.

On that occasion, AHY explained that infrastructure is the main foundation that supports community life while driving national economic growth.

“Infrastructure is everything we can see and use in everyday life, from roads, bridges, dams, irrigation, to public facilities such as schools and hospitals. All of them are closely linked to development,” said Coordinating Minister AHY, in a written statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

He stated that infrastructure is not limited to physical construction, but also serves as a support system that drives social and economic life comprehensively.

AHY also explained that equitable infrastructure development is an important factor in strengthening connectivity between regions in Indonesia.

“With better infrastructure, people’s mobility becomes faster and more efficient. This ultimately increases productivity and drives economic growth,” he clarified.

According to him, the benefits of infrastructure can only be felt fairly by all layers of society if equitable development becomes a priority.

In addition to discussing infrastructure, AHY also highlighted the importance of character building and strengthening leadership spirit from an early age for the younger generation.

“Leadership is something very valuable. Every individual must be able to become a leader, starting from oneself, then family, environment, to a broader level in society and the state,” he asserted.

He assessed that leadership is not merely about positions, but about responsibility and the ability to create positive impacts on the surrounding environment.

In the context of self-development, AHY encouraged the students to actively participate in organisations as a real learning medium.

“Through organisations, we learn about responsibility, cooperation, and how to take roles in making real contributions to the surrounding environment,” he added.

He said that organisational experience is an important provision in shaping character, enhancing social skills, and preparing the younger generation to face future dynamics and challenges.

Closing the meeting, AHY appreciated the aspirations and ideals of the students who wish to contribute in various fields, from military, architecture, business, to psychology. This diversity of interests is seen as great potential to support inclusive and sustainable national development.

In that audience, AHY was accompanied by Expert Staff for International Cooperation Mira Permatasari.
