Receiving Iranian Ambassador, Governor Ahmad Luthfi Expresses Condolences on the Passing of Ali Khamenei
Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi conveyed his deep condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, as he received a visit from the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, at the Central Java Governor’s Office on Wednesday (22/7).
Beyond the condolences, Luthfi also relayed a message of peace from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the people of Central Java in response to the conflict in the Middle East.
“As Governor of Central Java, I express my deepest condolences on the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. May he rest in peace. We pray that the conflict in Iran will soon come to an end,” said Luthfi.
It is understood that the conflict in Iran has had an extraordinary impact on other countries around the world. That impact has also been felt indirectly by Central Java and Indonesia in recent times.
“In this meeting, we also conveyed a message of peace from President Prabowo Subianto and all the people of Central Java, specifically to Iran and, more broadly, to the countries of the Middle East,” continued Ahmad Luthfi.
In response, Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi expressed his gratitude for the condolences conveyed by Governor Ahmad Luthfi, as well as for the message of peace from President Prabowo Subianto.
He acknowledged that during the conflict that erupted in Iran, many messages and expressions of support had arrived at the Iranian Embassy. These included messages from the people of Central Java, who have consistently shown their support for Iran in its struggle against the military aggression. Those messages were sent in various ways, including by letter.
“Throughout this war, particularly this recent one, I have received many messages from the Indonesian people, especially from Central Java and Semarang. I have only been able to read some of them, as they number in the thousands. It is my duty to convey my thanks,” he said.
Boroujerdi then explained that relations between Iran and Indonesia, as well as Central Java, have been established for a very long time. Since 2016, those ties were affected by interventions and unilateral sanctions imposed on Iran by the United States. This limited Iran–Indonesia relations, preventing them from reaching their full potential, even though the two countries share strong political, social, and cultural ties.
“I hope that once this war is over, the potential of both countries can be further harnessed for cooperation. These two countries have complementary potential,” he explained.
