South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru received a courtesy visit from the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Roderick Brazier, on Wednesday (8/4). The meeting, held in the Governor’s conference room, was utilised to strengthen partnerships while promoting South Sumatra’s flagship potentials to Australia. Herman Deru emphasised that South Sumatra possesses abundant natural resources and promising investment opportunities. He noted that the province has 17 regencies/cities with extensive agricultural and plantation potentials. Rice cultivation areas reach 537,000 hectares, oil palm 1.4 million hectares, and rubber, which contributes 30 percent of national production. “For coffee, South Sumatra ranks third in the world with arabica, liberica, and robusta varieties,” stated Herman Deru in his remarks on Thursday (9/4). He also highlighted the cultural diversity comprising nine ethnic groups and 17 languages as a social strength, making South Sumatra a safe region for investment. According to Herman Deru, these potentials need to be boosted to achieve higher added value, especially for coffee commodities that are currently exported in raw form.
