Recalcitrant developers warned
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said that the city administration would continue to take firm action against developers who neglected their obligation to build public and social facilities in each of the housing complexes they construct.
"The city will continue to take tough action against those delinquent developers," Surjadi said at City Hall on Wednesday. He did not give details of the kinds of punishments such developers would face.
"There is no use revealing everything to the press because our job is to make sure that the regulation is obeyed," Surjadi said.
In the past the city administration has, on a number of occasions, temporarily refused to issue new building permits to the developers, who have failed to build public and social facilities as required.
Recently, the North Jakarta mayoralty stopped issuing new building permits to developer PT Summarecon Agung. A few days later the East Jakarta mayoralty followed North Jakarta's example, refusing to issue further permits to the developer of the Concord housing estate.
Surjadi said that he would investigate a claim made by PT Modernland Realty Ltd that the developer had the right to appropriate about 47 hectares of land. The company made the claim in response to a statement made by East Jakarta Mayor Sudarsono, who said, according to the Jayakarta daily, that PT Modernland Realty Ltd had the right to appropriate only seven hectares of land.
Modernland is currently building about 1,400 houses on a single plot in Cakung, East Jakarta. (yns)
