Reasons Why PSI Refuses to Assist Grace Natalie in Facing Legal Case Over JK Video
The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has stated that it will not provide legal assistance to the party’s Board of Trustees Secretary, Grace Natalie, regarding the incitement and hate speech case at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri). PSI’s Acting Chairman of the Central Executive Board, Ahmad Ali, said that Grace’s actions or statements in this case are outside the party’s duties, so they must be accounted for personally. “So institutionally, we ensure that we will not provide legal assistance on behalf of the party because these are matters that must be accounted for personally,” Ali said at the PSI DPP office on Tuesday (5/5). Grace was previously reported along with Ade Armando and social media activist Permadi Arya. The report was accepted and registered under number LP/B/185/V/2026/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 4 May 2026. The report was filed by 40 Islamic mass organisations united under the Alliance for Religious Harmony. Representative of LBH Syarikat Islam/SEMMI, Gurun Arisastra, stated that the reporting was related to the polemic narrative included in each of their posts regarding a video clip of a sermon by the 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK), at the UGM Mosque while explaining the conflict in Poso and Ambon. “The Legal Aid Institute of the Indonesian Muslim Students’ Union and the Legal Aid Institute of Syarikat Islam along with the Legal Aid Institute of Muhammadiyah, Hidayatullah, AFKN and other organisations have reported three figures: Ade Armando, then Permadi Arya, and also Grace Natalie,” said Gurun Arisastra to reporters at Bareskrim Polri, South Jakarta, on Monday (4/5). Meanwhile, Ade Armando has announced his resignation from PSI. According to him, this case has dragged the party too far. Ade said that his legal case is not new. However, the attacks on PSI this time can no longer be tolerated. Even, the case is indirectly said to potentially involve the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). “I request permission, namely through this press conference I state that I resign from PSI, yes,” said Ade.
