Reasons for the Quietness of Bantul Tourism During Eid 2026, Visitor Numbers Drop 30 Percent

The Bantul Regency Tourism Office in the Special Region of Yogyakarta has identified several factors contributing to the drop in tourists during the 2026 Eid holiday, including the emergence of new destinations in Gunungkidul Regency. Head of Tourism and Creative Economy at the Bantul Tourism Office, Markus Purnomo Adi, acknowledged the decline in visitors during the 2026 Eid break compared to 2025. The details are as follows: on 18 March 2026, 1,628 people; 19 March 2026, 2,810 people; 20 March 2026, 4,392 people; 21 March 2026, 9,009 people; 22 March 2026, 18,976 people; 23 March 2026, 23,442 people; and 24 March 2026, 20,076 people. “Compared to last year’s Eid holiday, it dropped by around 30 percent,” said Markus when contacted by reporters via telephone on Sunday (29/3/2026). He stated that the suspected reasons for this decline include several factors, such as the short holiday duration and a decrease in the public’s purchasing power. “The emergence of new destinations, especially in Gunungkidul, also has an influence,” said Markus. Meanwhile, the manager of Pantai Gua Cemara Tourism Village, Timan, said there was a decrease compared to last year, evident from the quietness of the parking areas. “From the parking pockets that are not crowded with vehicles, it can be said that this year’s Eid holiday is not as busy as last year’s,” said Timan. For the cause, he suspected that the high ticket price of Rp15,000 is burdensome for tourists. Moreover, many visitors to the beach are only there to enjoy seafood dishes.
