Reasons for Involving the TNI in Training LPDP Scholarship Recipients

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendikti Saintek) Brian Yuliarto is involving the TNI to train LPDP scholarship recipients. He reasoned that the involvement of the national defence institution is to ensure that the recipients do not experience culture shock when studying abroad. Additionally, according to him, the TNI will also provide reinforcement of national values and discipline training for the scholarship recipients. “So that they do not experience culture shock and the like. Including discipline. There is also strengthening of nationalism,” he told reporters, quoted from 20Detik, on Sunday (3/4). He explained that the preparation from the TNI is important to be carried out so that the scholarship recipients have an understanding to return and contribute to the country. In addition, in that preparation, the scholarship recipients will also be given material on discipline to nationalism. “So basically, LPDP needs loads of discipline, hard work, nationalism,” he said. “Why, so that when they study later, they have the spirit of how after returning to Indonesia they can give the best contribution to our nation,” he added. Nevertheless, he explained regarding the TNI soldiers who will be involved in training the LPDP scholarship recipients that the criteria are still being discussed. “That hasn’t been determined yet. Of course from those who have experience,” said the man who was previously known as an academic at ITB. The plan to involve the TNI in the LPDP process has attracted attention. Several mass media previously reported that the TNI would be involved in pre-departure training in outdoor activities for this year’s LPDP scholarship recipients.
