Reasons for Government Appointing Luke Thomas as President Director of DSI: His Performance Has Been Very Good

Jakarta — Rosan Roeslani, the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming and also Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Danantara Indonesia, said that Luke Thomas Mahony’s track record was one of the main considerations in his appointment as President Director of PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI). ‘We look at many considerations, it’s not just his track record,’ Rosan told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Friday, 22 May 2026. Rosan assessed that Luke has strong experience in the minerals sector and trading, including leadership of several mining companies. ‘Moreover, Luke has a good network and an excellent performance during his time at Danantara Indonesia.’ According to Rosan, Luke’s experience at multinational companies, including PT Vale Indonesia, was also a consideration. Rosan also noted that Luke understands Indonesian. ‘He can speak Indonesian as well, and his wife is Indonesian,’ he said. Luke is an Australian citizen who previously served as Director of PT Vale Indonesia. Additionally, Luke has been serving as SEVP, Business Performance & Optimisation at Danantara Indonesia since September 2025. Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto, in a plenary session of the DPR, announced the government issued Government Regulation (PP) on the Governance of Export of Natural Resource Commodities. In the latest PP, Prabowo said the regulation makes state-owned enterprises the sole exporters for palm oil, coal, and ferro alloys. ‘All sale of our natural resource outputs, we start with palm oil, coal, and ferro alloys, and we require that sales be conducted through a state-owned enterprise designated by the Government of Indonesia as the sole exporter,’ said President Prabowo.
