Reasons for 30 Percent Toll Rate Discount Before Peak Eid Holiday Travel

JAKARTA — PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk is offering a 30 percent toll rate discount two days before the peak of Eid holiday travel and return journeys in 2026 to encourage the public to travel earlier.

This discount is intended to ensure more even distribution of vehicles on toll roads during the holiday period.

Jasa Marga’s Chief Executive Officer Rivan A. Purwantono said the discount initiative is part of efforts to provide stimulus to the public whilst managing traffic distribution during the holiday period.

“When a discount is requested, we also consider the corporate aspect. However, providing stimulus to the public is also important, as the government expects us to be involved,” Rivan said at a press conference in Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

“We selected two days, 15-16 March, which precede the peak on 18 March. The aim is for people to depart on 15-16 March,” Rivan said.

According to him, the timing of the discount was also based on travel pattern projections analysed using data from previous years.

He added that the timing also takes into account the work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy on 17-18 March and proximity to the Hindu Nyepi holiday on 19 March.

“Why is 18 March important to avoid or move forward? Because 19 March is Nyepi. This is something we always test in our projections,” he said.

Jasa Marga is applying the same strategy during the return journey period after Eid 2026.

The company is offering a toll rate discount on 26-27 March 2026 to prevent vehicle accumulation over the weekend following Eid.

“The return journey after Eid typically occurs again over the weekend. Because we do not want congestion on 28-29 March, we moved the discount to 26-27 March,” Rivan said.

Rivan added that based on previous experience, toll rate discount policies typically increase public interest in travelling during the designated periods.
