Reason Revealed Why PPPK Teachers Can Join CPNS Selection Starting from 2027
President Prabowo Subianto has placed significant emphasis on improving the welfare of teachers. One of the key measures is providing opportunities for teachers with Government Employees with Work Agreement (PPPK) status to become Civil Servant (CPNS) candidates.
“Teachers with PPPK status will be given the opportunity to participate in the selection process to become CPNS teachers, with the process commencing in early 2027,” stated the Head of the Government Communications Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, as quoted in a Bakom press release on Friday (4/9/2026).
Previously, the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) agreed on the restructuring of PPPK teacher employment status. This agreement encompasses three main points. First, part-time PPPK teachers will be appointed as full PPPK through a transfer mechanism proposed by their respective agencies. This mechanism will take effect from January 2027.
Second, teachers with PPPK status will be given the opportunity to undergo selection to become CPNS teachers. This process will also begin in 2027.
“The mechanism is through selection, not automatic appointment. Every participant will undergo the selection process in accordance with applicable regulations. For those who are unsuccessful, their status will remain as PPPK,” Qodari explained.
Third, the employment status of teachers will be restructured into central government employees. Qodari explained that provisions regarding personnel administration and budgeting will be further regulated.
Additionally, the government is opening teacher recruitment to address national teacher shortages. This recruitment is open to the general public, making it accessible to both recent graduates and those who have been serving, provided they meet the established requirements.
“Through this restructuring, the government aims to ensure that the status and career progression of teachers operate within a single, cohesive national framework,” said Qodari.
Furthermore, he noted that this restructuring is not merely an administrative matter. The government intends for teachers to have certainty and sustainability in their service, making this restructuring a component of teacher governance reform and the improvement of educational quality.
“Every step that strengthens the position of teachers is, in essence, an investment in the future of Indonesia’s children,” concluded Qodari.
