Reason Pramono Dismantles Viral 'Love-Hate Relationship' Pedestrian Bridge
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed the reason for dismantling one of the pedestrian bridges (JPO) that recently went viral as the ‘Love-Hate Relationship’ JPO in the Jalan HR Rasuna Said area, citing accessibility issues for persons with disabilities. With the demolition of the old JPO, only one bridge will remain at the location. “The reason we will dismantle one JPO (on Rasuna Said) is because that one is truly not disability-friendly,” Pramono said after visiting the JPO in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Sunday (9/8/2026).
He stated that based on a direct inspection of the site, one of the JPOs was deemed unfriendly to disabled groups because of a height difference between the bridge access and the surrounding area. “The old one no longer has a lift, so it is not easy for the public, especially persons with disabilities, to access,” Pramono said. According to him, this condition makes it difficult for disabled people to utilise the available crossing facility. “If we connect them, there is a significant height difference, which means people with disabilities cannot use that location or place,” Pramono explained.
Furthermore, Pramono explained that the facility being retained will also be repaired and its maintenance improved. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will ensure the facility can be used more easily by the public, including ensuring the presence and function of the lift can support user needs. “And the new one will have its maintenance fully repaired and simplified, including the lift and other things we have checked, so hopefully it will no longer be ‘Love and Hate’, no longer ‘Love and Love’, or just one Love,” Pramono clarified.
Based on the inspection conducted by Pramono and his staff, the two JPOs essentially serve the same function, namely as public crossing facilities while supporting access to transport services, including the Light Rail Transit (LRT). However, there is a fundamental difference in the age and design of the two JPOs. One JPO is a facility built by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government a long time ago, while the other is a newer facility linked to the LRT and KAI. “The one made by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is older; if you look at the design, it is definitely a design from the 80s or early 90s. Meanwhile, the one made by the LRT and KAI is newer,” Pramono revealed.
He further assessed that the existence of two JPOs with the same function indicates a problem in past public facility development policies. Therefore, Pramono stressed that the old JPO belonging to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will be dismantled, while the newer JPO will be retained and its facilities improved.
