Reason Indian PM Narendra Modi Will Visit Prambanan Temple

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta. Modi is scheduled to visit the largest Hindu site in Indonesia on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. Modi will be in Indonesia for three days, from Monday to Wednesday, 6-8 July 2026. Foreign Minister Sugiono revealed the reason for Modi’s plan to visit Prambanan during this trip. “He plans to visit Prambanan Temple because one of the agreements reached between Indonesia and India is an effort to carry out the restoration of Prambanan Temple,” Sugiono said while welcoming Modi’s arrival at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Monday. Before travelling to Yogyakarta, Sugiono said Modi will attend a state event at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. There will be a one-on-one meeting between PM Modi and President Prabowo Subianto, followed by a closed bilateral meeting. Indonesia and India, Sugiono stated, will sign a number of memoranda of understanding during Modi’s visit. “There are agreements in the fields of defence, education, health, and also technology development,” said the Gerindra Party politician. President Prabowo welcomed Modi’s arrival in Jakarta on Monday, 6 July 2026. Prabowo was present when Modi landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base for the three-day visit. Prabowo appeared to wait at the bottom of the Indian presidential aircraft’s stairs to greet Modi. The two shook hands and embraced upon meeting. An honour guard also escorted Prabowo and Modi as they walked to the car. At the same time, several Indonesian Air Force fighter jets were heard flying overhead. Modi’s arrival was also accompanied by a cannon salute. Before entering the car, Prabowo and Modi watched a traditional None Kemayoran dance performance near the vehicle. The two heads of state briefly observed the dance before getting into the car. When welcoming Modi at Halim Air Force Base, Prabowo was accompanied by several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet. Besides Sugiono, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya were also present. Prabowo welcomed Modi after bidding farewell to Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the same airport. Wong was in Indonesia from Sunday to Monday, 5-6 July 2026. Earlier that morning, Wong had been received by Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace for a bilateral meeting with delegations from both countries.
