Reason Ibam Not Burdened with Restitution in Chromebook Case: Did Not Enjoy Profits
Considering that based on all the considerations, the panel of judges opines that the Public Prosecutor’s demand to burden the defendant with additional criminal sanctions in the form of restitution money and subsidiary prison sentence cannot be granted, and the panel of judges agrees with the legal counsel’s plea on this part, thus the defendant Ibrahim is not burdened with additional criminal sanctions in the form of payment of restitution money as per Article 18 paragraph 1 letter b of the Corruption Eradication Law,” stated the chief judge Purwanto S Abdullah while reading the verdict at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
The judges stated that Ibam did not receive any money, goods, or facilities related to this procurement. The judges did not grant the prosecutors’ demand for restitution payment to Ibam.
“Considering that thus from the series of criminal issues charged against the defendant, it is not proven that he obtained any personal financial or material benefits, whether in the form of money, goods, services, or facilities from the series of information and communication technology equipment procurement that is the subject of the case,” stated the judge.
Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison
Previously, Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam was sentenced to 4 years in prison. The judges stated that Ibam was guilty in the alleged corruption case of Chromebook and Chrome Device Management (CDM) procurement.
“Declaring the Defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing corruption crimes jointly as in the subsidiary indictment,” said the chief judge Purwanto S Abdullah while reading the verdict at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (12/5).
“Imposing a prison sentence on the Defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam therefore for 4 years,” added the judge.
Ibam was also ordered to pay a fine of Rp500 million. If the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 120 days.
The judges stated that Ibam was guilty of violating Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Offences Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 first of the old Criminal Code.
This verdict is much lower than the prosecutors’ demand. Previously, Ibam was demanded 15 years in prison, a fine of Rp1 billion subsidiary 190 days imprisonment. The prosecutors also demanded that Ibam pay restitution of Rp16.92 billion subsidiary 7 years and 6 months prison.
