Reason Gunungkidul Residents Punish Adulterous Couple Caught Cheating by Building RT Road
An adulterous couple with initials P and S has been sanctioned to build an RT road in Ngloro, Saptosari, Gunungkidul. Local authorities stated that this is to provide a deterrent effect. The incident began when the pair attended a residents’ meeting in April 2026 and were caught cheating afterwards. At that time, Acting Head of Karangnongko Hamlet, Mukardi, was present to ensure the situation remained conducive. “I only acted as a bridge to prevent any riots. We also suggested that the sanction should not be too heavy if possible,” Mukardi said when contacted by reporters on Monday (4/5/2026). Therefore, the residents held a deliberation and agreed that the couple must build the RT road. According to him, this was all to provide a deterrent effect and prevent similar incidents from recurring. “Regarding the sanction, it was an agreement among the residents, and the essence is to give a deterrent effect so that such incidents do not happen again,” he stated. Mukardi denied that the sanction was opportunistic. Because the RT road where the adulterous couple lived was indeed damaged. “The road in that neighbourhood is severely damaged,” he said. Mukardi stated that the couple has carried out the sanction from the residents. Even the work has started since Sunday (3/5) yesterday. “It has been implemented, the work has just started two days ago,” he said. Previously reported, residents caught a man and a married woman in an illicit relationship in Ngloro, Saptosari, Gunungkidul. After undergoing a people’s trial, they were sanctioned to purchase building materials for the RT road construction. Jogoboyo (Security Section) of Ngloro Village, Aris Setyawan, said the incident began when residents held an RT meeting at the end of April 2026. Subsequently, one of the meeting participants, a man with initials P, suddenly asked to leave the meeting location. “10 minutes later, a woman with initials S followed him out. S is already married,” he said when contacted by reporters on Monday (4/5). Suspicious residents then searched for the whereabouts of the two individuals. However, upon arriving at P’s house, P was not at home. “After investigating, the person in question was at S’s house,” he said. Aris continued, residents then waited for the two to come out of S’s house. After quite a long time, the two finally emerged from S’s house. “The residents waited for about one hour, and finally the two came out of the house,” he said. Subsequently, residents secured the two and brought them to the local RT Chairman’s house. As a result, the two admitted to having a forbidden relationship. “Finally, after deliberation, the residents agreed to impose a social sanction in the form of 10 dumps of sand and 200 sacks of cement for the construction of the RT neighbourhood road,” he said.
