Reason for Anwar Usman's Fainting at MK Building: Staying Up Late Watching Podcasts
Former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Anwar Usman has revealed the reason behind his fainting after undergoing the Retirement Ceremony at the MK Building in Central Jakarta on Monday (13/4). Anwar explained that his condition deteriorated due to insufficient rest as he was engrossed in watching podcast episodes until the early morning. “Lack of sleep. Stayed up until dawn. Yes, yes, just the usual, diligently watching podcasts when already, the displays of Balkan countries there. Since returning from Bosnia,” said Anwar at the MK Building in Central Jakarta on Monday (13/4). In addition, the brother-in-law of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo admitted that he fainted because his stomach was empty. “Indeed, I hadn’t had breakfast yet,” he added. Previously, Anwar, who had just completed the entire series of events, fainted in front of the pillar door of the MK Building. His aide along with the judges, including MK Deputy Chief Saldi Isra and Constitutional Justice Guntur Hamzah who were nearby, swiftly held Anwar’s body before it fell to the floor. They then carried Anwar to the waiting room. The Constitutional Court (MK) held the Retirement Ceremony for Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman, which was combined with the welcoming of two new Constitutional Justices, namely Liliek Prisbawono Adi and Adies Kadir. This honour event was held in the presence of the MK Chief along with the constitutional judges on Monday (13/4) at 16:00 WIB, at the Plenary Courtroom of MK Building I. This ceremony marks the end of Anwar Usman’s service after dedicating himself for 15 years as a constitutional justice, with his term of office officially ending on 6 April 2026. Throughout his track record at the MK, he once held the mandate as Deputy Chief of the MK (since 14 January 2015) and was trusted to lead as Chief of the MK for the period 2018-2023.
