JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Chinese smartphone vendor Realme has revealed a change in preferences among consumers in the entry-level segment in Indonesia. According to them, users of budget phones now care more about the durability or resilience of the device compared to high specifications listed on paper. PR Lead for Realme Indonesia, Krisva Angnieszca, said that this finding was obtained from various internal research conducted by the company on entry-level smartphone users in the country. “The focus (in the entry-level segment) is indeed on durability. We now want to create products that are truly based on user needs or user-oriented,” Krisva stated during the launch of Realme’s latest entry-level phone, the C100 Series, at Atma Jaya Catholic University in South Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026). Krisva continued that from the research conducted by Realme, the battery is one of the device durability features desired by consumers in the lower segment. This is influenced by the increasing intensity of daily smartphone use, both by students and blue-collar workers who typically work all day. This forms the background behind the introduction of the Realme C100 Series, which has a battery with the largest claimed capacity in its class, namely 8,000 mAh. At the launch event, this feature, along with the device’s body durability claimed to be drop-resistant, became the main highlights. Krisva revealed that such a strategy, namely introducing features that match market segmentation, has also had a positive impact on Realme’s business performance in Indonesia. Indeed, Realme’s market share has experienced growth over the past year, despite the current market conditions for phones and their components. “Perhaps in general, purchasing power is indeed declining, but at Realme we are experiencing an increase in market share,” Krisva claimed without mentioning the data and figures. “One of the reasons is that we have succeeded in presenting products that meet user needs,” Krisva added.
