Real Sustainable Transformation, PLN Group Secures 46 PROPER Gold and Green Awards from KLH 2025
PT PLN (Persero)’s commitment to implementing a sustainability-based business transformation has borne national recognition. PLN Group has successfully secured 46 PROPER Gold and Green awards from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH), as appreciation for its superior and consistent environmental performance.
In detail, for PROPER 2025 this time, PLN Group achieved a total of 46 awards, consisting of 11 PROPER Gold and 35 PROPER Green. From this number, PLN Holding obtained 1 PROPER Green, PLN Indonesia Power secured 7 PROPER Gold and 22 PROPER Green, while PLN Nusantara Power contributed 4 PROPER Gold and 12 PROPER Green.
PROPER Gold is the highest ranking given to companies that not only comply with regulations but also demonstrate sustainability excellence through social and environmental innovations as well as community empowerment. Meanwhile, PROPER Green is awarded to companies that have exceeded compliance standards (beyond compliance) through the implementation of good environmental management systems, resource efficiency, and sustainable business practices.
This achievement affirms PLN’s acceleration in integrating sustainability principles across all business lines, from developing new renewable energy (NRE), energy efficiency, applying circular economy, to utilising low-emission technology to support the national decarbonisation agenda.
This attainment is even more special with the awarding of PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, as ‘Green Leadership PROPER’ for his role in driving the transformation towards a sustainable utility while accelerating Indonesia’s energy transition.
The Minister of Environment and Forestry/Head of BPLH, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, who presented the awards in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026), emphasised that PROPER is not merely a symbolic award, but a real indicator of company performance in preserving the environment while creating value for society.
“Hopefully, the predicate we give can encourage all of our performance in contributing at the national level as well as in the international business contest,” said Hanif.
He reminded the importance of maintaining consistency, so that the Gold predicate does not become a momentary achievement, but a standard in future company operations.
Deputy for Pollution Control and Environmental Damage (PKKL) of KLH/BPLH, Rasio Ridho Sani, added that the number of PROPER 2025 participants reached 5,476 companies, an increase of 22 percent compared to the previous year.
“PROPER is a performance assessment programme aimed at increasing company compliance and also encouraging companies to become more than compliant or beyond compliance,” said Rasio.
Meanwhile, PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that this award serves as validation for the direction of PLN’s transformation that is increasingly progressive in prioritising environmental aspects.
“This award becomes a motivator for PLN to continue strengthening sustainable business practices and accelerating the energy transition in supporting the Net Zero Emissions 2060 target or sooner,” said Darmawan.
In the last five years, PLN has recorded a significant surge in decarbonisation performance. The realisation of greenhouse gas emission reductions has increased nearly fourfold, from 12.9 million tons of CO₂ in 2021 to 51.1 million tons of CO₂ in 2025.
This achievement is driven by various strategic steps, including NRE development that has reached around 9.4 gigawatts (GW), implementation of biomass co-firing in 52 coal-fired power plants, application of clean coal technology in around 14 GW of power plants, as well as expansion of gas-based power plants with production reaching 33.7 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2025.
“PLN’s transformation not only focuses on the reliability of electricity supply, but also on sustainability. We are committed to providing clean, reliable, and affordable electricity,” said Darmawan.
He emphasised that this achievement reflects PLN’s increasingly solid transformation in supporting sustainable development while strengthening contributions to national decarbonisation targets.
