Real purpose of Jakarta busway

Jakarta's busway project creates the impression of haphazard
planning, with its purpose becoming even more obscure, while its
delay has increased the cost to Rp 118 billion.

The busway, which will ply the Blok M to Kota route, is
financed by the Jakarta regional budget and slated for operation
at the end of 2003.

The statement by Suripno, director of transportation system
development at the Ministry of Communications, that the busway
would serve only temporarily, pending completion of the Jakarta
subway project, strengthens suspicion about the lack of proper
planning.

Meanwhile, the questionable subway is followed by the
emergence of Jakarta's monorail project. So what is the busway
really for?
