Ready! Here is the List of Favourite Train Travel Dates for Mudik from Jakarta in 2026
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 1 Jakarta has identified the period from 16 to 20 March 2026 as the preferred dates for passengers departing Jakarta towards their home towns. Based on the latest reservation data, 18 March ranks as the peak departure date for this year’s mudik (homecoming) season.
Franoto Wibowo, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, revealed that ticket booking trends show high passenger concentration in mid-March. Following 18 March, congestion is expected on 19, 20, 17, and 16 March respectively.
As of Friday 13 March, public enthusiasm is evident from ticket sales reaching 681,000 units for the travel period from 11 March to 1 April 2026. This figure represents 63% of the total capacity provided by KAI.
“Over the 22-day Lebaran transport period in 2026, we have prepared more than 1,076,000 seating capacity,” said Franoto in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March.
Despite certain dates being popular, KAI has assured that overall ticket stock remains available for those who have not yet made reservations. Cities in Central Java and East Java such as Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Purwokerto, and Jember remain the primary destinations for homecoming travellers.
To reduce congestion on popular dates, KAI Daop 1 has deployed additional train services. Franoto detailed that there are 12 additional train departures from Gambir Station and 7 additional departures from Pasar Senen Station.
Additionally, four train journeys are available under the Motor Gratis (Motis) programme managed by the Directorate General of Railways under the Ministry of Transport to reduce the number of two-wheeled vehicle users on roads.
Passenger movement began increasing today. At Pasar Senen Station alone, 18,657 passengers were dispatched, a significant increase compared to the previous daily average of approximately 16,000 passengers.
