JAKARTA (JP): The Nanda Dian Nusantara Foundation has inaugurated a reading room for the children of poor families in Penjaringan subdistrict in North Jakarta.

The reading room was part of the foundation's social programs held in cooperation with the Jakarta chapter of the Indonesian Journalist Association and Bank Niaga.

The foundation is a social organization, which was established four years ago with the aim of helping the government handle street children and underaged workers of the informal sector in Jakarta.

Mrs. Roostien Ilyas, chairperson of the foundation, said at the inauguration ceremony on Thursday that the foundation will also give assistance to about 2,000 poor people living in six traditional markets in conjunction with the commemoration of the Ramadhan month.

The six markets include Pasar Kramat Jati, Pasar Burung Rawa Bunga, Pasar Cikini, Pasar Ikan Aquarium, Pasar Kebayoran Lama and Pasar Mangga Dua.

Roostien did not say as to when the assistance will be given. (hhr)
