Tourism operators in the Lembang area, West Bandung Regency, West Java, are hopeful that the reactivation of Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung will boost foreign tourist visits. The Indonesian Air Force-owned airport is scheduled to resume serving flights starting September 2026. “Our hope, of course, is that with direct flights to Husein Sastranegara Airport, the interest of foreign tourists in Lembang will increase again,” said Intania Setiati, Public Relations of Floating Market Lembang, on Saturday (4/7/2026). She stated that the operation of Husein Sastranegara Airport will certainly boost visits to the Lembang area, especially from overseas travellers. This is because tourists from countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and others can fly directly to Bandung and continue their journey to Lembang. However, since commercial flights at Husein Sastranegara Airport were closed and diverted to West Java International Airport Kertajati in Majalengka Regency in 2023, foreign tourist visits to Lembang plummeted. The enthusiasm of overseas tourists has slowly begun to increase again following the arrival of the Whoosh Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train. Intania is optimistic that foreign tourists will flock to Lembang if the airport in the centre of Bandung serves international flights. “Foreign tourism has seen an increase since last month. There are visitors from Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, China, and several other countries,” said Intania.
