Reaching the Thailand Open final, Leo/Daniel demonstrate improved synergy after reuniting as a pair
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian men’s doubles pair, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin, stated that they have improved their synergy after reuniting and successfully advanced to the final of the BWF Super World Tour Super 500 Thailand Open 2026.
Leo/Daniel secured their final berth after defeating the Chinese pair He Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu in straight sets 21-15, 21-18 in the semi-final match at the Nimibutr Stadium, Bangkok, Saturday.
“We have been a pair before, although we were separated for a while. So, after being reunited, we don’t need much adaptation,” said Daniel after the match, quoted from a written statement from PBSI.
He said that having the same goals is an important factor that makes their chemistry quickly re-establish, even though they were separated as a pair for a while.
“Now we also have the same goal, which is to win together,” said Daniel.
According to him, focus and discipline in implementing the strategy are the keys to victory over the Chinese pair.
“The key to our victory is to play with focus, not be careless, and continue to anticipate the opponent’s playing patterns and try to play the patterns that we have prepared,” said Daniel.
The 24-year-old player also expressed his gratitude for being able to immediately reach the final in his first tournament after a long absence due to injury.
“I didn’t expect to reach the final, but I’m grateful. Praise God,” said Daniel.
Meanwhile, Leo admitted that he was happy to be able to reach the final with Daniel again and praised his partner’s performance, who was able to perform impressively after being sidelined for a year.
“I am very happy to be able to reach the final with Daniel again. Appreciation and salute to him for being able to immediately reach the final in the first tournament after being absent for a year. That’s great,” said Leo.
Leo emphasised that Daniel’s rescue action on crucial points in the second game was one of the important moments of their victory.
“Earlier at the 15-13 point in the second game, Daniel was able to neutralise their attack even though he was already falling, then he got up and made a save in front of the net, that was amazing,” said Leo.
Even though they managed to reach the final, Leo/Daniel stated that they did not want to be complacent and chose to focus on facing the final against the Indian top seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty.
“Tomorrow we have to be more vigilant, in all aspects. Their attacks must be anticipated with the condition that the field feels different every day from the wind direction, the shuttlecock, so we have to keep being prepared,” said Leo.
Daniel added that they also want to maintain consistency to face the next tournaments.
“But we don’t want to be complacent either, there are still matches tomorrow and many matches ahead that we have to go through and be wary of,” said Daniel.
