RCTI expanding coverage of stock exchange

JAKARTA (JP): The private Rajawali Televisi Indonesia (RCTI) will provide more information about trading on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) through a business feature and a teletext service beginning in September.

An agreement on providing the station with the necessary information was signed here yesterday by RCTI president Ralie Siregar and JSX president Hasan Zein Machmud.

Siregar said the teletext will be accessible at all times on the existing channel. He added that viewers could access the teletext service by pushing "a special button" in their television set, although this is only possible with very new sets. The teletext will be available only in the Jakarta area in its first year.

He told reporters following the signing of the agreement that the business feature would analyze prospects and earning projections of listed companies as well as their marketing targets.

"The teletext service will provide data on transactions," he said.

Hasan said the deal with RCTI is a matter of "win-win" cooperation and that no payment is involved.

Siregar said that RCTI will invest around Rp 2 billion (around $950,000) to install new equipment for the teletext service, which will be linked to the JSX by computer.

"The on-line system will enable viewers to get the latest information about transactions," Siregar said.(hen)
