Raymond and Joaquin Withdraw, Indonesia Sends Only 8 to Singapore Open
The men’s doubles pair Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin have been confirmed to withdraw from representing Indonesia at the Singapore Open 2026. The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) withdrew them due to injury.
The Singapore Open 2026 badminton tournament, a BWF World Tour Super 750 event, will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 26-31 May.
Indonesia initially sent nine representatives across five categories: two men’s singles, one women’s singles, three men’s doubles, one women’s doubles, and two mixed doubles.
However, the number of Indonesian representatives has reduced by one following PBSI’s decision to withdraw Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin. Their names were not present in the delegation that departed for Singapore on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
“Raymond has been complaining about discomfort in his left posterior knee for the past week,” said Antonius, head coach of Indonesia’s men’s doubles, in a written statement.
“We tried therapy and adjusted his training regimen, but during the final check-up before departure, he still felt discomfort,” he added.
Antonius continued that Raymond’s condition still allows him to compete, but it may hinder his movement. Therefore, PBSI decided not to risk it.
“He can still play, but it would not be optimal due to restricted movement and some obstacles,” he added.
“Hopefully, with the remaining time, his recovery and preparation will improve for the upcoming Indonesia Open,” said Antonius Budi Ariantho.
The Singapore Open 2026 draw has been released. Fajar and Fikri will face Lee Fang-Chih and Lee Fang-Jen (Taiwan) in the first round, while Sabar and Reza will play against Eng Keat Wesley Koh and Junsuke Kubo (Singapore).
