Rawa Buaya in West Jakarta Flooded as Kali Angke Overflows, Residents Rush to Save Belongings
Floodwaters submerged several neighbourhood units (RT) in Rawa Buaya, West Jakarta, following the overflowing of the Kali Angke river.
Observations at RT 12 and RT 16, RW 04 Rawa Buaya on Friday (20/2/2026) at 13:40 Western Indonesian Time (WIB) showed floodwaters still standing at approximately 70 centimetres. The water had also entered residents’ homes.
A number of residents were seen salvaging their belongings from the floodwaters. Motorcycles had already been relocated to streets with lower water levels.
One resident, Ahmad, explained that the flooding began at around 04:30 WIB, shortly after the pre-dawn sahur meal during the fasting month.
“It started this morning. After sahur, that’s when the water began to rise,” Ahmad said when met at the scene.
He noted that the floodwaters had yet to recede. The flooding reached its peak at around 11:00 WIB.
“Since before Friday prayers, the water has still been high,” he said.
