Sumber (ANTARA News) - Rattan handicraft articles still dominated Cirebon`s export commodities, although many of the raw materials of the products had been replaced with wood and plastic, an official of the local industry and trade agency said.

"Cirebon regency`s exports comprise 700 to 800 containers each month. Most of the 10 different export commodities are 500 to 600 containers of rattan," head of Cirebon regency industry and trade agency Maman Suparman said in Sumber Wednesday.

He said the export commodities included rattan furniture, textiles, shell handicraft goods, rattan looms, rattan baskets, wooden furniture, and natural rocks.

Their destinations are Europe, the US, Canada, South America, Japan, and South Korea, he said.

The rattan export goods are mostly modified with plastic, due to the lack of quality rattan.

In 2008 the exports reached 13,441 containers worth 130 million US dollars, or 1,306 containers estimated at 12.5 million per month.

In 2009 the exports dropped to 9,005 containers worth 88.6 million dollars, or 818 containers estimated at 8.05 million dollars per month.

This year`s exports did not change much, because until March, the exports reached an average of 800 containers each month, he said.

Most of the exported handicraft goods had been sent from other areas, with the exception of natural rocks, which came from Palimanan in Cirebon regency, he said.(*)
