Rats galore at Golden Truly

Rats galore at Golden Truly

On May 19, 1997, I visited Golden Truly in Blok M, South
Jakarta. On the second floor the odor of rat waste was
overwhelming to the point of nauseating customers.

An inquiry made to one of the attendants about the obnoxious
smell received the reply that rats are rampant everywhere in the
store, but particularly in the fruit and vegetable section. Corn,
I was informed, is a favorite food of rodents.

This seemed proof that the vegetables and fruits had been
trampled on overnight by mice.

As a customer of Golden Truly, I am concerned about this
unhealthy situation. It seems customers' health is at stake here.

I appeal to Golden Truly, its Blok M branch in particular, and
other supermarkets to give priority to matters of hygiene in the
food sector. There should be no jeopardizing public health.

I also appeal to the Ministry of Health to check on grocery
and food shops and restaurants.
