Rasuna Said Road Undergoing Revamp with Sidewalks Built Like Those Abroad
The Jakarta Provincial Government under the leadership of Governor Pramono Anung is currently redeveloping the sidewalks along that corridor after 109 monorail poles were dismantled some time ago. The road improvements along the 3.65-kilometre stretch include the construction of drains, road and pedestrian arrangements, as well as the building of parks. This step is part of efforts to improve the quality of pedestrian facilities in the Capital to make them more comfortable and friendly for the public. The revitalisation of the Jalan HR Rasuna Said sidewalks is targeted to be completed coinciding with the commemoration of Jakarta’s 499th birthday on 22 June. The pedestrian and road arrangements will cost Rp 100 billion. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government stated that the results of the arrangements are expected to deliver sidewalk quality equivalent to the Sudirman-Thamrin area, which has long been known as one of the best pedestrian routes in the capital.
