Rasuna Said 'Love Lock' Bridge to Feature Modern Design, Here's the Concept
The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, plans to create a ‘Love Lock’ bridge in the Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta. The bridge is being developed as part of an urban redevelopment initiative to create a new local attraction.
“The plan to build two pedestrian bridges is currently being processed by the Jakarta Provincial Government as part of the overall regional redevelopment. This is an initiative by Governor Pramono Anung to provide a more humane and romantic public space, serving as a new attraction while complementing the completed sidewalk and pedestrian improvements,” said the Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta, Chico Hakim, when contacted on Friday (3/7/2026).
Chico noted that the Jakarta Provincial Government is still discussing the construction plan through the Highways Agency (Dinas Bina Marga). He mentioned that the bridge will be funded by the Regional Budget (APBD).
“It is currently in the early planning stage by the Highways Agency. No exact figures have been set as the Detailed Engineering Design (DED) and the budgeting process are still ongoing. Construction will utilise the Jakarta APBD, and we will transparently announce the budget amount once the planning is more mature,” he said.
Chico stated that the bridge will feature a modern design and will be integrated with the newly revitalised Rasuna Said area.
“The concept is a pedestrian bridge crossing a river (one of which is near the KPK building), featuring special facilities for attaching ‘love locks’ as a symbol of affection. The design will prioritise modern aesthetics, pedestrian friendliness, integration with the new face of Rasuna Said, and will be safe and inclusive,” he added.
Chico revealed that the Highways Agency team is currently working on the complete design. Once finalised, the design will be published to invite public feedback.
Previously, Pramono addressed the specific location of the ‘Love Lock’ bridge in the Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta. Pramono emphasised that the location is not a standard pedestrian overpass (JPO), but rather a bridge crossing the Cideng River directly in front of the KPK Merah Putih Building.
“There has been some misunderstanding. The Love Lock is not being built on a pedestrian overpass,” Pramono said in the Latumenten area, West Jakarta, on Thursday (2/7/2026).
Pramono explained that the intended location is the bridge connecting the HR Rasuna Said area with Jalan Kuningan Persada. According to him, the bridge could later serve as a space for expression for Jakarta’s youth.
“There is a river there that connects Rasuna Said with the road in front of the KPK. There is a bridge there that we are building. I hope that, as part of our integrity and to provide space for the expression of Jakarta’s youth, it can be built and used for the Love Lock,” he said.
