Rasuna Said Car Free Day to End Earlier
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has implemented a Car Free Day (CFD) on Jalan HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta. However, the duration of the CFD in South Jakarta will end earlier, taking into account feedback from places of worship around the location. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that public enthusiasm for the CFD on Rasuna Said is very high. Nevertheless, the DKI Provincial Government is also considering residents’ activities in conducting worship on Sunday mornings. “When we launched the anniversary celebration along with waste sorting and plans for the CFD on Rasuna Said, I can say the public’s enthusiasm is extraordinary,” Pramono told reporters at Kramat Jati Market in East Jakarta on Monday (11/5/2026). Despite this, Pramono admitted to receiving requests from several places of worship in the Rasuna Said area. This is because worship activities usually begin in the morning. “There are indeed requests, especially from the places in Rasuna Said—apologies— for worship. Worship usually starts from 10:00 AM. So we immediately decided that for Rasuna Said, the car free day will still start at 05:30 but will definitely end earlier than that,” he said. Pramono explained that the CFD scheme on Rasuna Said will differ from the Sudirman-Thamrin area. For the Sudirman-Thamrin area, the DKI Provincial Government still plans to start the CFD earlier at 05:30 AM, while the end time is still being studied. “But for Sudirman-Thamrin, we will start at 05:30, ending at 10:00 or 09:30—we will decide soon before 1 June,” he clarified. He emphasised that the decision on the operational hours for the CFD on Rasuna Said will consider public input, particularly to avoid disrupting worship activities. “But specifically for Rasuna Said, I am certainly considering suggestions from the community who will be worshipping that day. And it will definitely be different from Sudirman-Thamrin,” he revealed. Pramono assessed that the inaugural CFD on Jalan Rasuna Said went well. Pramono was surprised that the CFD on Rasuna Said was well-received by the public. “Why is this (CFD) being held? Because of the extraordinary public demand, and earlier I was also surprised, shocked—on the first day of the CFD, it turns out from the morning, coincidentally I walked earlier, it went well and the public welcomed it very much,” Pramono told reporters on Jalan Rasuna Said on Sunday (10/5). Pramono explained that the CFD on Jalan Rasuna Said will run effectively starting from 1 June. The car-free day will be held starting at 05:30 AM each time it is conducted. “The car free day we hold here, starting from 05:30, same as in Sudirman-Thamrin, will be implemented effectively from 1 June,” he clarified.
