The phenomenon of Istiwa A’zam, also known as Rashdul Kiblat, will take place on 15-16 July 2026, when the sun is positioned exactly above the Kaaba. According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Rashdul Kiblat on 15-16 July 2026 will occur at approximately 16:27 WIB or 17:27 WITA. The public simply needs to prepare a perfectly vertical object and observe the direction of its shadow at that specific time to determine the qibla direction. The Rashdul Kiblat method is one of the most practical techniques in Islamic astronomy as it can be performed without special equipment. People can carry it out at home, in mosques, prayer rooms, schools, university campuses, or any open space that receives direct sunlight during the observation period. The Ministry of Religious Affairs is using the Rashdul Kiblat moment to invite Indonesians to participate in the National Movement for 1,448,000 Qibla Direction Verification Points: The Day of a Million Qibla Directions. This movement is part of the Peaceful Muharram 1448 H series organised by the Directorate General of Islamic Community Guidance. Arsad Hidayat, Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Development, stated that this national movement is an effort to broaden public understanding of the importance of the qibla direction while introducing the use of astronomy in daily life. He noted that this astronomical phenomenon, which occurs twice a year, is the best opportunity to independently verify the qibla direction. ‘Through the National Movement for 1,448,000 Qibla Direction Verifications, we aim to invite the public to ensure their qibla direction easily and accurately by utilising a natural phenomenon long recognised in the tradition of Islamic astronomy. This is an educational moment as well as a strengthening of the quality of worship,’ Arsad said in a written statement. The activity targets marriage officiants, Islamic religious instructors, mosque and prayer room administrators, Islamic boarding schools, madrasahs, schools, universities, Islamic community organisations, and the general public. The Ministry of Religious Affairs is targeting the participation of at least 1,448,000 people from across Indonesia. Arsad explained that this figure was chosen to symbolise the year 1448 Hijriah, which serves as the momentum for this national movement. Members of the public wishing to participate can register by clicking the link: Register for the 1,448K Rashdul Qiblat National Movement.
