Rapist dad faces trial

BEKASI: The police will soon submit the case against AF, who allegedly raped his daughter, a minor, to the prosecutors, an officer said on Friday.

Bekasi Police chief Adj. Comr. Suwondo Nainggolan said that the suspect faces a maximum punishment of nine years in prison as stipulated in Article 294 of the Criminal Code on child protection.

Angry neighbors brought AF and his wife to the police earlier this month after the girl told them what had happened. AF told the police that his wife helped him to rape their own daughter on two occasions.

Suwondo said that the wife would also be charged in the case.

"Religious figures should hold talks and read the Koran at least once a week for the residents ... It might prevent similar crimes from happening," he said. -- Antara
