Rapid progress: People’s School construction in Medan already above 70 percent
PT Nindya Karya’s chief commissioner, Michael Umbas, conducted field visits to two Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) sites in North Sumatra — in Deli Serdang and Medan — on Tuesday 19 May to ensure that works are progressing as planned and to motivate the project teams on the ground. In his briefing, he expressed appreciation for the progress achieved on the Sekolah Rakyat in North Sumatra, noting the hard work, coordination and high commitment across the entire project team.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the pace of construction, strengthening cross‑sector coordination, and ensuring that quality and safety remain top priorities until project completion.
Specifically, Umbas praised the progress at the Medan site as highly significant and even a national benchmark: all roofing has been installed, most of the flooring is finished, ceilings are underway, and the project is now in the final stages of MEP work — described as phenomenal.
According to the M23 progress report, the overall North Sumatra SR programme is progressing positively and ahead of targets. At the location level, Medan has reached 73.21% of a target of 51.42%; Deli Serdang 55.22% of 50.74%; Serdang Bedagai 53.71% of 50.93%; South Tapanuli 51.90% of 43.17%; and Padang Sidempuan 57.03% of 50.07%.
Umbas indicated that these results demonstrate healthy acceleration and must be maintained through completion. “The most important thing is not only to finish quickly, but also to ensure the quality of the buildings, the functionality of the facilities, and that benefits are truly felt by communities. Sekolah Rakyat is a visionary programme of President Prabowo Subianto that supports the future of the nation’s youth,” he said.
The Sekolah Rakyat project in North Sumatra forms part of a national strategic education sector programme, with a contract value of around Rp1.2 trillion and a completion target of 20 June 2026.
As a national construction company, PT Nindya Karya reiterates its commitment to continuing to support high‑quality educational infrastructure as a tangible contribution to strengthening human resource development toward a Golden Indonesia.
On-site in Deli Serdang, Umbas was accompanied by Project Manager Donny Kusuma. In Medan, he was accompanied by Project Manager Irwan Firmansyah. The visit to Medan was followed by a virtual conference with project managers from across Sumatra.
