Rapid AI Development and Technological Disruption Pose Challenges to Morality and Global Peace

At a crucial intersection of technology and morality for humankind, the Bali Harmony Encounter Week 2026, held from 2 to 7 September 2026, reached its spiritual and philosophical peak with the Tri Hita Karana Universal Reflection Ceremony 2026.

Held at Sunset Mandala, Sira Village, within the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone, the ceremony brought together delegates from more than 70 countries representing governments, the technology sector, academia, civil society and local communities.

Under the main theme of “Holding Space for Peace: Peace Within, Peace Among Us, Peace with All Life”, Suyoto, Vice-President of the United In Diversity Foundation, said the event served as a sanctuary for world leaders to reflect on and reinterpret the meaning of peace amid relentless technological disruption and global fragmentation.

“Amid heavy global challenges, Indonesia continues to record improvements in the Human Progress Index and in harmony among religious communities. Through the THK Universal Reflection Forum, the UID Foundation carries forward the spirit of Tri Hita Karana, which we believe lies at the heart of the teachings of all religions and traditions in Indonesia,” said Suyoto in a statement on Monday, 7 September 2026.

On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. M. Arskal Salim, Secretary of the Directorate General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, attending on behalf of Religious Affairs Minister Prof. Dr. K.H. Nazaaruddin Umar, also affirmed the importance of moral leadership in an era of global change, emphasising the power of individual and community commitment.

According to him, great transformations are not born from a single giant light, but from the small candles we carry together. He invited the younger generation and people of all faiths to keep this flame alight, in our homes and workplaces.

“Peace within ourselves, peace among us, peace with all life — this is not merely a slogan, but a call for real action that begins with ourselves today,” he said.

As part of the opening of the Bali Harmony Encounter Week 2026 and the start of the AI World Congress Bali initiative, the “Bali Harmony Dialogue” was held on 3 September 2026 at the United in Diversity (UID) Bali Campus, KEK Kura Kura Bali. The dialogue brought together experts from three sectors to address the widening global AI divide.
