BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Local police doubt a 16-year-old girl
was raped, saying they have found evidence she consented to
having sex with her accused attacker, Antara reported.

The girl turned up at the South Lampung Police Precinct in
tears during the Idul Fitri holiday last week.

She said she had just got off the ferry from Merak and was
taking a rest near the port when the man approached her.

He offered to give her a lift to just outside of the town, but
instead he took her to an empty house and raped her, she said.

South Lampung Police Chief Lt. Col. Abdul Wahid said there
were indications she consented to have sexual intercourse.

"It certainly was not rape," he stated.

The investigation was shelved because the girl could not be
contacted at her home village and the alleged attacker, whose
identity was known to the police, had left town. (emb)
