JAKARTA (JP): Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs
Idroes threatens to punish city public order office staffers who
are involved in a recent housemaid rape case.
Investigation on the involvement of the city public order
officials is going on, he told reporters on Tuesday.
"We will not hesitate in punishing those involved in the crime
and those who let the rape happen," Idroes said, adding that
dismissal is very possible to the errant officials.
Official report has said that one official allegedly let a
friend, who is not a member of the officials team, to rape a
housemaid mistakenly picked up in a crackdown on streetwalkers.
The incident took place behind the Gambir subdistrict
administration office in Central Jakarta on Jan. 25.
Aswin, the alleged rapist is now in police detention.
An unofficial source has said recently that the city
administration has suspended three officials of the city public
order office.
Idroes said that up to now his office has not yet taken any
action against any of the officials.
The victim said that the rapist paid Rp 10,000 (US$4.65) to an
official of the city public order before raping her. She said
many officials of the office were watching television in another
room when she was raped.
The rape hit the headlines after the housemaid, accompanied by
her employer, reported to the Menteng police subprecinct. (yns)
