Rano to Inspect Damaged Road in Pesanggrahan Immediately: We Will Definitely Repair It

A section of Jalan Mochtar Raya on the border between Joglo, West Jakarta, and Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, is flooded and severely damaged, with footage of the conditions going viral on social media. Vehicles were seen struggling to navigate the waterlogged and broken road surface.

Responding to the public outcry, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno confirmed he would personally inspect the reported site and take immediate action. “I will check it later. Provide us with accurate information. We will definitely repair it,” Rano stated in Central Jakarta on Saturday.

He emphasised that the DKI Provincial Government is continuously carrying out infrastructure repairs across various areas, including spots damaged by drainage issues. According to him, the administration has also addressed several instances of land subsidence occurring in Jakarta’s border areas. “We even repaired a collapsed drainage channel in the Depok area. Of course, with an area this large, we cannot fix everything all at once,” he said.

When informed that flooding at the location had been pumped out the previous week only to reappear, Rano noted that such recurring problems are possible given the advanced age of Jakarta’s drainage network. “It could happen. Because I also just received information that there is another area experiencing subsidence again,” he remarked.

Rano disclosed that sinkholes potentially threaten several parts of Jakarta, with one contributing factor being underground infrastructure that is decades old. “Therefore, when I was in Lenteng Agung, I already conveyed that sinkholes or subsidence are very likely in Jakarta because our drainage channels are quite old, nearly 30 to 40 years of age,” he explained. He assured that the DKI Provincial Government will continue to monitor and repair damaged infrastructure to prevent harm to the public and disruption to residents’ activities.
