Rano Says This Year Is the Momentum to Strengthen Development Programme Implementation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated that this year represents a momentum for strengthening the implementation of development programmes, particularly those with a direct impact on the public.
“This is a year of programme reinforcement. We want to ensure that every policy is truly felt by Jakarta residents,” he said during a Ramadan Safari event at Al Mabrur Prayer Hall in Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Sunday.
Rano said that within the space of a year, 97 per cent of the 40 quick-win programmes launched by himself and DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung had been carried out. This achievement, he continued, serves as a foundation for continuing priority programmes in the current budget year.
Rano went on to say that there are three main issues that remain challenges for the capital: flooding, traffic congestion and urban poverty. He assured that these three issues would be the primary focus of the provincial government in formulating future policies.
“Jakarta has three major problems: flooding, congestion and urban poverty. That is why our entire development strategy is directed at addressing these three challenges in a gradual and sustainable manner,” he said.
He emphasised that land acquisition and resident relocation would be carried out in accordance with prevailing regulations.
“River normalisation must continue so that water flow functions optimally again. We want this reorganisation to proceed in an orderly and fair manner, providing more decent housing solutions for the community,” he stressed.
On transport matters, Rano said the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government would continue to expand public transport connectivity through the development of Transjabodetabek. This measure is being undertaken as an effort to reduce congestion without adding the burden of new road construction.
“We cannot keep adding roads due to land constraints. Therefore, strengthening public transport is the primary strategy for easing congestion,” he said.
In addition, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue its transport subsidy policy for 15 categories of residents. According to him, this policy represents the government’s commitment to vulnerable groups.
“We allocate a considerable budget for public transport subsidies each year. This is our commitment to ensuring that residents’ mobility access remains affordable and inclusive,” he said.
Beyond outlining development programmes, Rano also spoke about the importance of maintaining togetherness and the spirit of mutual cooperation in building Jakarta. He expressed hope that the Ramadan period would strengthen unity and social solidarity among residents.
“Jakarta belongs to all of us. Those who can look after and build it are ourselves. I hope this Ramadan brings blessings and strengthens our togetherness,” he said.
