Rano reaffirms DKI Provincial Government's commitment to supporting religious community activities
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno has reaffirmed the commitment of the DKI Provincial Government to continue supporting religious activities for all faiths as part of inclusive social development. He even stated that the Nyepi celebration has been included in the provincial government’s activity calendar, both in cultural and religious contexts. “We agree with the Governor that the calendar of community religious activities in a cultural context should be continued, so that future Nyepi celebrations can be even better,” said Rano while attending the Dharma Santi Nyepi event for the Saka New Year 1948/2026 at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Sunday. This year’s Dharma Santi Nyepi event is themed “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: DKI Jakarta in Harmony, Indonesia Advances”, and also forms part of the series of celebrations for the Holy Day of Nyepi Saka New Year 1948, which falls on 19 March 2026. The celebration involves the Hindu community in DKI Jakarta, in collaboration with civil servants (ASN) in the DKI Provincial Government environment, the Indonesian Hindu Dharma Parishada (PHDI) of DKI Jakarta, Suka Duka Hindu Dharma Greater Jakarta, KORPRI, and the DKI Jakarta Nyepi Committee. In his speech, Rano appreciated the role of the Hindu community in maintaining interfaith harmony in Jakarta. According to him, Dharma Santi is not merely a religious ceremony, but also a space to strengthen social cohesion in a pluralistic society. “The Hindu community has shown real contributions in nurturing diversity and tolerance in Jakarta,” said Rano. “We are grateful that for the first time, Dharma Santi can be held at City Hall,” said Soni. He mentioned that the theme Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam carries the meaning of universal brotherhood, which is relevant to life in Jakarta’s diverse society. “The value of universal brotherhood is an important foundation for maintaining harmony, tolerance, and social solidarity in the capital,” stated Soni. Also present at the event were, among others, the Secretary of DKI Jakarta, the Chair of the Central PHDI, the Chair of Suka Duka Hindu Dharma Greater Jakarta, and officials in the DKI Provincial Government environment.
