Rano pushes for inter-agency collaboration to accelerate emergency response

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno is pushing for inter-agency collaboration to accelerate responses to emergency situations, citing the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Fire and Rescue Department as models for efficient fleet deployment in the field.

“We can collaborate, for example, between BPBD and Damkar. So the fleet is always ready and can move quickly when needed,” he said during a visit to the Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) office in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday.

On that occasion, Rano also discussed the construction of a Command Headquarters (Mako) for Satpol PP to enhance response times to public complaints.

“This Mako is necessary. The land is already available and it will be a priority. We want all monitoring to be centralised, including the Command Centre. Especially since Jakarta is heading towards becoming a global city,” he stated.

According to Rano, the construction of the Satpol PP Mako had previously been delayed due to regional budget efficiency policies. However, the need for an integrated command centre is now increasingly urgent amid Jakarta’s transformation.

“It was actually already budgeted, and the land is available. But it was postponed due to efficiency measures. Now we are reviewing it again. If we want to become a global city, Satpol PP must have its own command centre because the personnel, fleet, and CCTV monitoring are quite extensive,” said Rano.

He also highlighted the importance of strengthening facilities for other departments with large fleets and crucial service functions. One of them is the Environmental Department (LH), which he believes requires adequate fleet depots.

“Departments with large fleets like LH also need depots. We don’t have enough space to accommodate trucks and equipment. Satpol PP is the same, with many vehicles,” said Rano.
