Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, has opened opportunities for collaboration between the Equator Bonjol area in West Sumatra and the Jakarta Planetarium at the Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) complex as part of strengthening science education and developing knowledge-based tourism destinations.

“Hopefully, there will be room for cooperation that can be developed, including for revitalisation, so that visits to this area become increasingly attractive and provide added value in terms of education,” said Rano in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Rano, who had the opportunity to visit the Tuanku Imam Bonjol Museum in Bonjol, Pasaman, West Sumatra, then conveyed that culture plays an important role in social, economic, and community character development.

“Culture must be positioned as a driver of development. It lives from traditions and values passed down, while also serving as a foundation so that progress goes hand in hand with strengthening identity, and opens up economic opportunities for the community,” he said.

He then highlighted the role of MSME actors in Pasaman who continue to drive the local economy and strengthen regional independence.

“That spirit needs to be passed on to the younger generation so that development remains rooted in local strengths,” he said.

On that occasion, Pasaman Regent Welly Suhery stated that the Pasaman Regency Government is developing the “School Goes to Equator” programme to make the planetarium an educational space for children.

“Through the School Goes to Equator programme, we hope this planetarium can become a developing educational centre and increase visits sustainably,” he said.
