Rano Karno Uncovers Land Status Issues in Kemayoran That Have Remained Unresolved for 35 Years
Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has revealed findings on land status issues in Kemayoran, central Jakarta, that have remained unresolved for decades, impeding various development efforts. He plans to hold a limited meeting shortly to discuss the matter. Rano shared this during a visit titled ‘Bang Doel Greets Residents’ in Kemayoran, central Jakarta, on Friday (24/4/2026). He admitted discovering the main problem in Kemayoran related to unclear land ownership status. “It turns out there is indeed a major primary issue, namely the land status here. Insyaallah, we must hold a limited meeting on this soon,” Rano said. Rano explained that the land issue has even made some residents reluctant to participate in the Development Planning Consultation (Musrenbang). According to him, proposals submitted are deemed difficult to realise if the land status remains unclear. “There are seven RW units that do not want to join Musrenbang because they feel it’s pointless. If the land status is unclear, it’s futile,” he stated. He gave an example that infrastructure improvements such as roads cannot be carried out if the land has not yet become an asset of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. This situation, Rano said, has stalled several development proposals. According to Rano, the land status issue in Kemayoran has been ongoing for a long time, nearly 35 years without clarity. Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government will coordinate with relevant parties to find a solution. “Historically, this was the Kemayoran Airport before it moved to Cengkareng. Some parts may belong to the DKI Provincial Government, but some are indeed owned by the State Secretariat. That’s what we need to inquire about,” he said. Rano emphasised that his side will follow up on this issue to prevent it from dragging on. He hopes a solution can be found soon so that development in the area can proceed. “This problem has been unanswered for nearly 35 years. Insyaallah, we’ll try to help find the solution later,” he added.
