Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karness expressed his commitment to supporting students affected by the Kemayoran fire during a site visit on Tuesday (2/6/2026). Rano stated that he personally consulted the Head of the Jakarta Education Office regarding the academic welfare of the students involved.

“The children are currently in the middle of examinations. I left my house at 6 am this morning to take my grandchild to their exam, so I called the Head of the Education Office to ask, ‘What about the children affected by the fire and their exams?’” Rano said. According to Rano, the Education Office has ensured that the affected students will not be disadvantaged by the tragedy, noting that a policy for supplementary exams has been established.

He explained that this decision was made because many students lost essential school equipment, including books, bags, and uniforms, in the blaze. Rano also confirmed that no school buildings were damaged in the incident, meaning teaching and learning processes can continue normally once the students’ conditions allow.

Preliminary data from the Jakarta Provincial Government indicates that the fire in the Kebon Kosong area has affected 679 individuals. Among the victims are 53 primary school students, six junior high school students, and dozens of teenagers from senior high and vocational schools. In addition to exam dispensations, the Provincial Government has established psychological support services for children experiencing trauma. These services are available at the displacement centre alongside healthcare and other basic necessities. Currently, the fire victims are sheltering at a centre prepared by the Jakarta Provincial Government at Yusuf Hamka Field, where the government continues to distribute logistics, food, and basic necessities.
