Rano Karno Safe Amid US-Israel vs Iran Conflict, Returns from Umrah Tomorrow

Jakarta, 2 March 2026 – Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno has not been impacted by international flight disruptions resulting from United States-Israel military strikes on Iran.

Beno, Special Staff to Jakarta Governor for Public Welfare, confirmed that Rano Karno’s scheduled return to Indonesia remains unchanged, with his departure planned for Tuesday, 3 March 2026, following his umrah pilgrimage since 22 February 2026.

“God willing, we will proceed as scheduled. We plan to return tomorrow,” Beno stated when asked for clarification on Monday, 2 March 2026.

“The situation remains fluid. So far, aircraft that transit have been cancelled. Fortunately, our aircraft flies direct without transit. God willing,” Beno explained.

The Middle Eastern conflict has resulted in airspace closures across multiple countries in the region. Consequently, numerous international flights have been disrupted, and several pilgrims have been stranded at transit hubs including Doha, Dubai, and Bahrain.

Major airlines have promptly cancelled, suspended, or diverted flights in response to the rapidly developing security situation in the region.

Emirates reported multiple flights disrupted due to airspace closures in the United Arab Emirates, with passengers advised to check flight status as cancellations have occurred.

Etihad Airways stated that “a number of flights have been cancelled and others are experiencing delays.”

Flydubai reported flights being “diverted, returned to parking, or cancelled” following airspace restrictions implemented in Dubai.

Qatar Airways suspended operations temporarily due to the closure of air traffic operations in Doha, which has served as the principal transit hub for pilgrims from Asia, Europe, and Africa.
