Rano Karno Reminds Abang and None Participants That Titles Are Not Just About Prestige

Jakarta — The Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, has reminded participants that becoming an ‘Abang and None’ is not merely about wearing a sash or holding a title, but involves carrying the name of Jakarta, protecting the city’s image, and nurturing cultural values.

“You (the finalists of Abang and None 2026) have gained knowledge and experience from various speakers regarding Jakarta, tourism, culture, creative economy, and various aspects related to the role of an Abang and None Jakarta. Now, you are ready to use that preparation to present Jakarta,” said Rano during the Abang and None Jakarta 2026 Final Night in Jakarta on Friday night.

Rano stated that as representatives of Jakarta, the Abang and None serve as a bridge connecting Jakarta with the younger generation and the world. Therefore, he requested that the finalists tell Jakarta’s story through its culture, culinary creativity, communities, and the warmth of its people.

He added that the method of storytelling must adapt to changing times, utilising various platforms—including stages, meeting rooms, and digital spaces—in a creative, wise, and responsible manner.

Looking ahead, Jakarta is expected to continue growing into a modern global city without abandoning its cultural roots and identity.

“I hope the Abang and None Jakarta 2026 can bring new energy on the journey towards Jakarta’s five-century milestone through creative works and real contributions. Continue to carry Jakarta’s culture further until it is known by the world,” Rano concluded.

Furthermore, he emphasised that the Jakarta Provincial Government always provides space for young people to continue creating and innovating.

The Abang and None Jakarta 2026 Final Night was attended by 36 finalists representing the six administrative regions of DKI Jakarta, namely the five cities and the Kepulauan Seribu Regency.
