Rano Karno Pledges to Fund Education for Child of Teacher Victim in Bekasi Train Accident

Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has confirmed that the child of Nurlaela, a civil servant teacher with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government who was a victim of the train accident in Bekasi, stands to receive an education scholarship.

Rano stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will prioritise the continuation of the victim’s child’s education through a programme prepared by the Education Office.

“Insya Allah, the Education Office will have a programme for that (scholarship). We will consider it; there will certainly be priority,” Rano said at Jakarta City Hall, quoted from Tribunnews.com, on Thursday (30/4/2026).

In addition to the scholarship plan, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has disbursed aid to the victim’s family as a form of responsibility.

For Nurlaela’s family, the aid provided amounts to around Rp283 million.

Aid has also been given to the family of another victim, Nurhayati, a jumantik cadre in Harapan Mulya Ward, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

“For Mrs Nurhayati, (aid) of Rp42 million from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and Rp20 million from Baznas Bazis DKI,” Rano said.

“Today, it is much faster and better if the aid is given, because of course we must anticipate the family’s needs as well,” he added.

Previously reported, the collision occurred between the Cikarang-bound KRL number PLB 5568A and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route around 20:52 WIB on Monday night.

The incident site was on the platform at Bekasi Timur Station KM 28+920.

The accident is suspected to have resulted from the KRL hitting a Green SM taxi at a crossing near the gate.

Injured victims are receiving treatment at several health facilities, including RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam Bekasi Timur, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga Bekasi Timur and Barat.
